Dr.
Ray McClanahan, D.P.M.
Ray McClanahan was born in Port Angeles, Washington to Larry
and Judi McClanahan. He completed his undergraduate studies at
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attend Pennsylvania
College of Podiatric Medicine (now Temple
University), and graduated in 1995. He then completed a two-year
podiatric, surgical residency training in Portland, Oregon, at
Legacy Health Systems
and Kaiser Permanente as a Podiatric
Physician and Surgeon.
He is now building practices at Longview Foot and Ankle Clinic
in Longview, Washington, and Northwest Foot and Ankle in Portland,
Oregon. Dr. Ray, as he is called by Superfeet, enjoys an active
staff position with St. John’s
Medical Center in Longview and Legacy
Health Systems in Portland and participates in all facets
of foot care from elective foot surgery to diabetic limb salvage.
His "dream-come-true," however, is a medical clinic
on 23rd and Lovejoy in Northwest Portland named Northwest Foot
and Ankle where he offers gait analysis and biomechanical evaluations
for those who find their highest joy when in motion. He performs
gait analysis using a slow motion digital camera and treadmill
in an effort to help athletes reach full potential in their sport
of choice. His professional goal is to provide quality podiatric
services with an emphasis on sports medicine and biomechanics.
He is a member of The American Medical Association, Washington
State Podiatric Medical Association, American Diabetes Association,
and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. This is
an organization established to advance Sports Medicine, to improve
service to patients, and to encourage continuing education in
Sports Medicine.
He was recognized by Wallace Medical Concern for continued efforts
to provide medical care to the homeless of Portland.
Dr. McClanahan is the representative podiatric physician for
Superfeet Worldwide. In this context he covers a variety of foot
conditions—including many running injuries as well as plantar
fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, shin splints, heel spurs, bunions,
and others—and recommends the proper footgear. Through his
connection with Superfeet, as well as his podiatric clinics, Dr.
McClanahan frequently has the opportunity to speak about the intricacies
of footwear and recommend the proper running shoes based on the
client’s particular foot structure.
He is a professional runner representing Superfeet, Asics and
Oomph! He is currently a top national runner, with a 14th place
finish in the 1999 U.S. National Men’s Cross-Country Championships
and a near Olympic Trials qualifying 5,000 meter mark of 13:56
in 2000. He recently qualified for the 2001 World Duathlon Championships.

Kay Porter, Ph.D.
Kay Porter owns Porter Performance Systems, a sports and organizational counseling firm in Eugene, Oregon. She teaches mental training techniques to athletes, teams, businesses, and school districts. She is a psychotherapist in private practice and an executive coach.
Dr. Porter holds her Ph.D. in Human Developmental Psychology from the University of Oregon and was a professor at the University of Oregon Center for Gerontology for eight years. She is an appointed member
of the United States Olympic Committee Sports Psychology Registry.
She is the author of The Mental Athlete: Inner Training for Peak
Performance, Human Kinetics (2003), and Visual Athletics, W.C. Brown. She co-produced two teaching videotapes, "The Mental Athlete" and "Change Your Mind!! Inner Training for Women in Business," and has created audiotapes and CDs of specific guided visualizations for goal achievement, stress reduction, and healing of sports injuries. She has written and published over 30 articles for national magazines and journals such as "Physician & Sports Medicine," "Runner's World," and "World Tennis."

Suzanne
Girard Eberle, M.S.,R.D.
Suzanne Girard Eberle, MS, RD, author of Endurance Sports Nutrition,
is a sports nutritionist who practices what she teaches. A former
national 5,000-meter champion, Girard Eberle has competed throughout
the world, including representing the United States at the World
Cross-Country Championships. She holds personal records of 4:28.65
(mile), 32:41 (10K) and 50:12 (15K).
Girard Eberle is a contributing editor for Running Times. Her
nutrition articles have also appeared in USA Today,
Women’s
Sports + Fitness, SELF, Men’s Fitness, Marathon & Beyond
and RaceCenter Northwest. She teaches sports nutrition at Portland
State University and serves as the nutritionist for the Multnomah
Athletic Club. When not running the trails in Portland, OR, Girard
Eberle enjoys cycling, mountaineering, rock climbing and eating
carrot cake.

Marcia

Marcia Mueller has been an athlete all her life. Presently, she
competes as a racewalker in road races, relays and marathons.
She is a proponent of cross training having suffered from an injury
from over training. Her cross training activities include swimming,
resistance training
and yoga to complement her walking. Athletes
are a large part of my practice.
Acupuncture is a midlife career change for Mueller. She discovered
the power in this ancient medicine when recovering from a back
injury and so from personal experience . Mueller is a graduate
of Lewis and Clark College and the Oregon College of Oriental
Medicine, where she received a Masters degree in Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine. Marcia Mueller has been in practice since 1998.

Ted
Forcum, DC, DACBSP, CSCS
Dr. Forcum received a bachelor’s degree from Willamette
University where he also served as the assistant athletic trainer.
He achieved a doctorate from Western States Chiropractic College
where he was President of the Sports Medicine Club. During that
time, he became a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist. Dr. Forcum is a Diplomate of the
American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians, the only chiropractor
in the Pacific Northwest with this highest level of sports designation.
The American Chiropractic Association Council on Sports and Physical
Fitness voted Dr. Forcum the 1994-95 Sports Chiropractor of the
Year. Dr. Forcum was also voted 1997 Native American Entrepreneur
of the year. He was awarded a 2000 ACA Sports Council Achievement
Award. Dr. Forcum has worked as an event physician for such events
as the U.S Track and Field Championships, the U.S. Taekwando Championships,
the World Veteran’s Games, the Nike World Masters Games,
and the US Soccer Festival. He has taught postgraduate programs
for Los Angeles Chiropractic College, Western States Chiropractic
College in Portland, Oregon, and Logan Chiropractic College in
St. Louis, Missouri. He lectures regularly nationally and internationally
on the topics of sports injuries and the biomechanics of athletic
footwear. Dr. Forcum is the event coordinator for the USA Track
and Field National Championships, and is the medical director
for the Adidas Oregon Track Classic, Columbia Gorge Marathon and
the Portland Marathon. Dr. Forcum is currently in private practice,
as Director of Back in Motion Sports Injuries Clinic, LLC in Beaverton,
Oregon and works as one of the chiropractors for the Health South
Fitness Center for the PGA Tour and Senoir PGA Tour.

Rebecca E. Akin, ND, "Dr. Reba"
Dr. Reba developed a passion for health and healing at a young age growing up on an island in Maine surrounded by gardens, fresh baked foods, and an active family. Her enthusiasm for the natural environment and her own
personal health challenges led her to naturopathic medicine. Dr. Reba’s family practice focuses on women’s health issues, nutrition, digestive disorders, and chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease.
A licensed primary care physician in the state of Oregon,
Dr. Reba’s approach to medical care seeks to reverse disease
and optimize personal health. Whenever possible, she teaches prevention and self care. Dr. Reba considers herself a partner in the healing process; she listens, educates, and supports her patients. She values each patient’s unique needs, and offers non-invasive natural therapies such as nutrition, botanical medicines, lifestyle modifications, and counseling.
In 2004, Dr. Reba co-founded Everyday Wellness Clinic, a group practice of naturopathic physicians located in downtown Portland. Complementing her private practice, she is active in the community lecturing to a variety of groups on natural treatments, nutrition, and teaching cooking classes. She teaches at the American Cancer Society, The Herb Shoppe, Wild Oats and Whole Foods markets, and in individual homes.
Dr. Reba lives in Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood with her husband Tom, daughter Alma, and cat Hank.
